Beijing Academy of Contemporary World Development, established in November 2004, is an independent civil institute committed to the researches on regional and international economic cooperation.
At the beginning of its establishment, keenly aware of the closer economic and trade relations between China, Central Asian countries and Russia within the framework of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and China’s strategy of western development, the institute proposed the launching of Euro-Asia Economic Forum in a timely manner. Later, in collaboration with the Secretariat of SCO, China Development Bank, United Nation Development Program (UNDP), The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and People’s Government of Shaanxi Province, it successfully organized the first Euro-Asia Economic Forum held in Xi’an in November 2005. In 2007, under the approval of State Council, Euro-Asia Economic Forum has become a biennial event with Xi’an as its designated venue. Newly joined by the Chinese Entrepreneurs Committee of Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Secretariat of Euro-Asia Economic Community as the major sponsors, this institute and Xi’an People’s Municipal Government will continue to co-organize the forum this year.
Beyond that, the institute is committed to the in-depth researches on the trend of international and regional economic development. While providing international cooperative opportunities to China, Central Asia, Northeast Asia and other parts of Asia, it also initiates numerous activities for a multi-channel platform among government, business and academic communities.
